Taxonomy
Carpolithus provoensis was named by Chandler (1966). Its type specimen is BYU 50, a seed/fruit, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Last Chance Road / Willow Springs, which is in a Kimmeridgian/Tithonian lacustrine - small sandstone in the Morrison Formation of Utah.

M. E. J. Chandler 1966Integument or cupule rounded-obconical elongate, lobes free only at flattened apex where there are five ? pointed unequal segments. Base with two short unequal facets inclined at an angle of 90° and, on opposite side, a short deep cleft. Surface irregularly longitudinally furrowed, many furrows short and discontinuous.
