Coscinocyathus was named by Bornemann (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-l Cm Boto-l]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Coscinocyathidae, Coscinocyathoidea.
It was assigned to Capsulocyathida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Coscinocyathidae by Debrenne et al. (2015).
