Taxonomy
Archaeotherium scotti was named by Sinclair (1922). Its type locality is Peanut Peak, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the Chadron Formation of South Dakota.

It was synonymized subjectively with Archaeotherium altidens by Effinger (1998).
