Taxonomy
Cornuproetus (Macroblepharum) africanus was named by Alberti (1969). It is the type species of Macroblepharum.

It was recombined as Macroblepharum africanum by Brauckmann and Gröning (2011); it was recombined as Sculptoproetus africanus by Bault et al. (2021).
