Bathmodon semicinctus was named by Cope (1872).

It was recombined as Loxalophodon semicinctus by Cope (1872); it was recombined as Coryphodon semicinctus by Hay (1902) and Wheeler (1961); it was synonymized subjectively with Coryphodon radians by Gazin (1962); it was considered a nomen dubium by Uhen and Gingerich (1995).
