Taxonomy
Phacops mucronata was named by Brongniart (1822). Its type specimen is PM 066296 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Dalmanites mucronatus by Kiaer (1897); it was recombined as Dalmanitina (Mucronaspis) mucronata by Destombes (1963); it was recombined as Mucronaspis mucronatus by Lesperance (1974); it was recombined as Mucronaspis mucronata by Owen (1981); it was recombined as Mucronaspis (Songxites) mucronatus by Zhou (2012).
