Taxonomy
Pelycodus nunienum was named by Cope (1881) [status questioned by Godinot 1998, but it is not clear what species he considers to be the correct senior synonym].

It was synonymized subjectively with Pelycodus frugivorus by Cope (1884), Hay (1902) and Gingerich and Simons (1977); it was recombined as Notharctus nunienus by Osborn (1902), Matthew (1915), Granger and Gregory (1917), Gazin (1962), Robinson (1966), Guthrie (1967), Guthrie (1971) and Beard (1988); it was recombined as Cantius nunienus by Godinot (1998) and Gunnell (2002).
