Taxonomy
Catopsalis foliatus was named by Cope (1882) [genotype; Granger and Simpson 1929 show that this IS the original combination]. It is the type species of Catopsalis.

It was recombined as Polymastodon foliatus by Cope (1884), Cope (1885) and Osborn and Earle (1895).
