Cervus scotti was named by Lydekker (1898) [replacement for Cervus americanus of Harlan 1825].

It was recombined as Alces scotti by Geraads (1983), Geist (1987), Kahlke (1990) and Lister (1993); it was recombined as Cervalces scotti by Scott (1913), Hay (1914), Frick (1937), Hibbard (1940), Azzaroli (1952), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Sher (1987), Churcher (1991), Azzaroli (1994) and Boeskorov (2005).

W. D. Matthew 1925 (Giraffa nebrascensis)The premolar is less quadrate that of the modern giraffe. It is proportioned much as Giraffa schlosseri, but the posterointernal crest is less than in the type figured by Schlosser. The size is equal Giraffa schlosseri or to a large modern giraffe.
