Taxonomy
Lipodectes pelvidens was named by Cope (1881). It is the type species of Chriacus.

It was recombined as Pelycodus pelvidens by Cope (1882); it was recombined as Chriacus pelvidens by Cope (1883), Scott (1892), Matthew (1897), Hay (1902), Matthew and Granger (1915), Hay (1930), Matthew (1937), Gazin (1969), Rigby (1980) and Rose (1996).
