Taxonomy
Chriacus simplex was named by Cope (1884). Its type specimen is AMNH 3107, a partial skull (M1-2, pt. M3, p4, m1, m2), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Protochriacus simplex by Scott (1892); it was recombined as Oxyclaenus simplex by Matthew (1897), Hay (1902), Hay (1930), Matthew (1937), Van Valen (1978) and Eberle (2003).
