Mycomorphoolithus kohringi
Taxonomy
Mycomorphoolithus kohringi was named by Moreno-Azanza et al. (2015). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is MPZ2014/37, an egg, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Cantalera 1, Josa, which is in a Barremian mire/swamp claystone in the Blesa Formation of Spain. It is the type species of Mycomorphoolithus.

| M. Moreno-Azanza et al. 2015 | Eggshells characterized by a single autapomorphy: Mushroom- shaped or inverted cone shell units comprising radiating wide crystals. They also differ from all previously known eggshell taxa in the following combination of characters: Eggshell with a mean eggshell thickness of 524 mm (n 1⁄4 96, SD 1⁄4 0.09, full range 0.31e0.81). Shell units are slender at the base of the unit, abruptly increasing in width up to fivefold at one third to one half of the eggshell. Pore openings vary in shape and dimensions, from 60 mm sub-circular pore openings to 300 mm oval to irregular pore openings that may be even larger due to the coalescence of adjacent pores. High pore density, ranging from four to 10 pores per square millimetre. Growth lines are straight to slightly wavy, over the entire eggshell thickness. |
