Taxonomy
Cratogeomys bensoni was named by Gidley (1922). Its type specimen is USNM 10495, a mandible (A portion of a left lower j,aw carrying all teeth (incisors broken)), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Pappogeomys bensoni by Wilson and Reeder (1993).
