Notiosorex phillipsii was named by Schaldach (1966). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Cryptotis mexicana by Choate (1970); it was synonymized subjectively with Cryptotis peregrina by Woodman and Timm (1999); it was recombined as Cryptotis phillipsii by Woodman and Timm (2000).
