Dictyocodon was named by Haeckel (1882) [3b. Tribe: Theopilida. Open, triradiate Tricyrtida. A. Theopilida with the second segment triradiate (Pterocorida) (that is, with three ribs or appendages of the middle segment visible). AII. Coronate (aperture of the test provided with a terminal corona of spines). IIb. With three wings of the second segment and teeth of the corona latticed. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Haeckel (1882).

It was assigned to Radiolaria by Haeckel (1882).
