Stichopodium was named by Haeckel (1882) [5b. Tribe: Stichopilida. Open, triradiate Stichocyrtida. B. Stichopilida with feet (with three terminal appendages). BII. With three feet latticed. (Translated from Latin by E.M.R. and W.R.R.)]. It is extant. It was considered monophyletic by Haeckel (1882).
