Taxonomy
Cynodesmus euthos was named by McGrew (1935). Its type locality is Gordon Creek Quarry, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Valentine Formation of Nebraska.
It was recombined as Tomarctus euthos by Vanderhoof and Gregory (1940), White (1941), Green (1948), Downs (1956), Macdonald (1960), Webb (1969), Voorhies (1990), Wang (1994) and Munthe (1998); it was recombined as Paratomarctus euthos by Wang et al. (1999) and Wang et al. (2008).
