Leptolophus cuestai was named by Perales-Gogenola et al. (2021). Its type specimen is MCNA 9948, a tooth (right M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zambrana, which is in a MP 18 lacustrine marl/limestone in Spain.
