Taxonomy
Peuce schmidiana was named by Schleiden (1855). It is not extant. Its type locality is Thiruvakkarai, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene fluvial-lacustrine horizon in India.

It was recombined as Araucarioxylon schmidianum by Felix (1882); it was recombined as Mesembrioxylon schmidianum by Sahni (1931) and Lakhanpal et al. (1976).
