Conomedusites was named by Glaessner and Wade (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: V u]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Conomedusites lobatus.

It was assigned to Scyphozoa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tetraradialomorpha by Erwin et al. (2011).
