Diceratherium tridactylum
Taxonomy
Aceratherium tridactylum was named by Osborn (1893). Its type locality is Indian Stronghold (Protoceras Channel), which is in a Whitneyan fluvial sandstone in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.
It was recombined as Caenopus tridactylus by Hay (1902), Osborn and Matthew (1909) and Troxell (1921); it was recombined as Subhyracodon tridactylus by Wood (1927), Wood (1961), Emry (1987) and Manning (1997); it was recombined as Subhyracodon tridactylum by Stock (1933); it was recombined as Diceratherium tridactylum by Osborn (1923), Scott (1941), Prothero (1998), Prothero (2005) and Lofgren et al. (2020).
