Thinohyus lentus was named by Marsh (1875) [genotype].

It was recombined as Perchoerus lentus by Hay (1902), Matthew (1907), Cope and Matthew (1915), Pearson (1923) and Fremd (1994).

Synonyms

Dicotyles pristinus was named by Leidy (1873). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Palaeochoerus pristinus by Cope (1879); it was recombined as Bothrolabis pristinus by Cope (1888) and Hay (1902); it was recombined as Thinohyus pristinus by Sinclair (1905); it was recombined as Perchoerus pristinus by Cope and Matthew (1915) and Pearson (1923); it was synonymized subjectively with Thinohyus lentus by Prothero (2009); it was synonymized subjectively with Perchoerus probus by Prothero (2021).
