Taxonomy
Oxyaena transiens was named by Matthew and Granger (1915).

It was synonymized subjectively with Oxyaena gulo by Van Valen (1966); it was recombined as Dipsalidictis transiens by Gingerich (1989), Gunnell and Gingerich (1991) and Gunnell (1998).
