Taxonomy
Ectopocynus intermedius was named by Wang (1994). Its type specimen is F:AM 27580, a partial skull (maxillary fragments and partial left ramus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Little Muddy Creek (Niobrara County), which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.
