Taxonomy
Ectopocynus simplicidens was named by Wang (1994). Its type specimen is F:AM 25431, a mandible (complete right ramus), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wood's Canyon Quarry, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial horizon in the Runningwater Formation of Nebraska.
