Taxonomy
Enhydrocyon stenocephalus was named by Cope (1879). Its type specimen is AMNH 6902, a partial skull (cranial fragments), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is John Day (non-specific), which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in the John Day Formation of Oregon.
