Mecolepis tuberculatus was named by Newberry (1856).
It was recombined as Haplolepis tuberculata by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Haplolepis (Parahaplolepis) tuberculata by Westoll (1944); it was recombined as Parahaplolepis tuberculata by Lowney (1980); it was synonymized subjectively with Parahaplolepis tuberculatus by Schultze et al. (2021).
