Inocaulis was named by Hall (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren D Gedi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 671,1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Inocaulis plumulosa.

It was assigned to Hydroida by Sepkoski (2002).
