Eoryctes melanus
Taxonomy
Eoryctes melanus was named by Thewissen and Gingerich (1989) [genotype]. Its type specimen is UM 68074, a partial skull (cranium and fragment of left dentary), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SC-133, which is in a Wasatchian wet floodplain wackestone/carbonate in the Willwood Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Eoryctes.
