Eotitanops gregoryi was named by Osborn (1913).

It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeosyops borealis by Wallace (1980); it was synonymized subjectively with Eotitanops borealis by Bown (1982), Mader (1989) and Gunnell and Yarborough (2000).
