Fouldenia ottadinica was named by White (1927). Its type specimen is NHM P.13178, a partial skeleton (Imperfect fish), and it is a compression fossil.
It was recombined as Styracopterus ottadinica by Moy-Thomas (1937); it was synonymized subjectively with Holurus ischypterus by Gardiner (1985).
