Holurus ischypterus was named by Traquair (1881). It is the type species of Fouldenia.
It was recombined as Styracopterus ischipterus by Moy-Thomas (1937); it was synonymized subjectively with Styracopterus fulcratus by Moy-Thomas (1937); it was recombined as Fouldenia ischiptera by Sallan and Coates (2013).
