Taxonomy
Gerastos izius was named by Gibb and Chatterton (2010). Its type specimen is UA 13473 (complete exoskeleton) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cyphaspis horizon, Mrakib, which is in a Givetian carbonate limestone in the Bou-Dib Formation of Morocco.
