It was synonymized subjectively with Agriochoerus major by Leidy (1857), Leidy (1869) and Cope (1884); it was recombined as Agriochoerus auritus by Hay (1902); it was considered a nomen dubium by Thorpe (1924); it was recombined as Blickohyus auritus by Lander (1998).
