Taxonomy
Aelurodon brachygnathus was named by Douglass (1903) [incorrectly said by Wang et al. 1999 to have placed this species in Aelurocyon, which wasn't named until 1907]. Its type locality is Flint Creek Beds, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in Montana.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Matthew and Gidley (1904), VanderHoof and Gregory (1940) and McGrew (1944); it was recombined as Euoplocyon brachygnathus by Wang et al. (1999), Tabrum and Nichols (2001) and Wang et al. (2008).
