Sterculioxylon pondicherriense was named by Awasthi (1981). It is not extant. Its type locality is Murattandichavadi, which is in a Neogene marginal marine horizon in India.
It was recombined as Sterculinium pondicherriense by Guleria (1983) and Srivastava (1991).
