Taxonomy
Entoptychus curtus was named by Matthew (1907). Its type locality is AMNH Rosebud 23, which is in a Harrisonian terrestrial horizon in South Dakota.

It was recombined as Gregorymys curtus by Wood (1936), Macdonald (1963), Macdonald (1970), Rensberger (1971) and Wahlert and Souza (1988).
