Taxonomy
Gypsonictops lewisi was named by Sahni (1972). Its type specimen is AMNH 77429, a tooth (isolated p4), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Clambank Hollow Quarry, which is in a Campanian/Campanian fine channel fill claystone in the Judith River Formation of Montana.
