Palpebralia (Pontipalpebralia) was named by Lutke (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame Sepkoski's reference number: 1106]. Its type is Palpebralia (Pontipalpebralia) pontifera.

It was reranked as Pontipalpebralia by Brauckmann and Brauckmann (1986), Jell and Adrain (2002) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Palpebralia by Lutke (1968); to Drevermanniinae by Brauckmann and Brauckmann (1986); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
