Taxonomy
Proetus (Proetus) subovalis was named by Kobayashi and Hamada (1974). Its type specimen is KKPFM 15188, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Loc. 3. Ys 15. Gomi Quarry, which is in a Ludlow reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Fukata Formation of Japan.
It was recombined as Coniproetus subovalis by Stocker et al. (2019).
