Taxonomy
Proetus (Piriproetus) amblyop was named by Erben (1952). It is not extant. It is the type species of Piriproetoides.

It was recombined as Cornuproetus (Piriproetus) amblyops by Alberti (1969); it was recombined as Piriproetoides amblyops by Alberti (1981); it was recombined as Piriproetus (Piriproetoides) amblyops by Alberti (2000).
