Taxonomy
Hesperoscalops rexroadi was named by Hibbard (1941) [genotype]. Its type locality is Rexroad KU Locality 2a, which is in a Blancan terrestrial horizon in the Rexroad Formation of Kansas.

It was recombined as Scalopus rexroadi by Hutchison (1968), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Dalquest (1983) and Gunnell et al. (2008).
