Heterosorex was named by Gaillard (1915). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Trimylus by Van Valen (1967) and Repenning (1967); it was synonymized subjectively with Pseudotrimylus by Engesser (1979).

It was assigned to Heterosoricidae by Ziegler (1989); and to Heterosoricinae by Engesser (1975), Rzebik-Kowalska (1994) and Ziegler (1998).

B. Engesser 1975Heterosoricine mit gezähneltem untern Incisiven und ungeteilter oder nur andeutungsweise geteilter Massetergrube an der Mandibel. Hypoconid-Hinterarm der m inf. hinter das Entoconid verlaufend (Modus B). m inf. mit 'entoconid crests'. Foramen mentale unter dem Trigonid von m2. Hinterster Zwischenzahn des Oberkiefers (P4?) dreieckig, mir sehr langer Aussen- und kurzer Innenseite. M1,2 sup. relative lang, mit schwach gespaltenem Mesotyl und schwach entwickelten Innenhügeln.
R. Ziegler 1998i inf. gezähnt, i inf-Hinterrand bis unter Trigonid des m1, Fossa masseterica ungeteilt.
