Taxonomy
Ascetopeltis barkingensis was named by Owens (1973). Its type specimen is SM A43029, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Barking, Dent, which is in an Ashgill marine mudstone in the Ashgill Formation of the United Kingdom.
