Taxonomy
Antiacodon mentalis was named by Cope (1875).

It was recombined as Sarcolemur mentalis by Cope (1877) and Hay (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Hyopsodus miticulus by Gazin (1968); it was recombined as Hyopsodus mentalis by Matthew (1915), Hay (1930), Gazin (1952) and Redline (1997).
