Palaeoisopus problematicus was named by Broili (1928). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bundenbach, Hunsrück, which is in an Emsian marine slate in the Hunsruck Slate Formation of Germany. It is the type species of Palaeoisopus.
