Taxonomy
Anomites pugnus was named by Martin (1809) [originally as "Conchyliolithus Anomites pugnus"]. It is the type species of Propriopugnus.
It was recombined as Terebratula pugnus by Phillips (1841); it was recombined as Rhynchonella pugnus by Davidson (1861) and Walcott (1884); it was recombined as Pugnax pugnus by Stauffer (1930); it was recombined as Propriopugnus pugnus by Brunton (1984).
