Hyracotherium vasacciense

Taxonomy
Lophiotherium vasacciense was named by Cope (1872). Its type specimen is AMNH 4658, a tooth (jaw with one lower molar), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is A point near Bear River, 6 miles north of Evanston, which is in a Wasatchian terrestrial horizon in Wyoming.

It was recombined as Notharctus vasacciensis by Cope (1872); it was recombined as Notharctus vasachiensis by Cope (1872); it was recombined as Orotherium vasacciense by Cope (1873); it was recombined as Orohippus vasacciensis by Cope (1875) and King (1878); it was recombined as Eohippus vasacciensis by Roger (1896), Hay (1902), Matthew (1909) and Hay (1930); it was considered a nomen dubium by Granger (1908); it was recombined as Hyracotherium vasacciense by Cope (1884), Wortman (1896), Matthew (1899), Gazin (1952), Kelley and Wood (1954), Kitts (1956), Robinson (1966) and MacFadden (1998).
