Ignacius frugivorus
Taxonomy
Ignacius frugivorus was named by Matthew and Granger (1921) [genotype]. Its type specimen is A.M.N.H. No. 17368, a maxilla (upper jaw with C, P4-M2 and alveoli of remaining cheek teeth), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mason Pocket, which is in a Tiffanian fissure fill shale in Colorado. It is the type species of Ignacius.
It was recombined as Phenacolemur frugivorus by Simpson (1935), Simpson (1935), Simpson (1936), McKenna (1963), Schiebout (1974) and Krishtalka et al. (1975); it was recombined as Phenacolemur (Ignacius) frugivorus by Robinson (1968).
