Ischyrocyon gidleyi
Taxonomy
Dinocyon gidleyi was named by Matthew (1902). Its type specimen is AMNH 10671, a partial skeleton (skull and partial skeleton), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Skillet Creek, which is in a Miocene terrestrial horizon in Texas.
It was recombined as Dinocyon (Borophagus) gidleyi by Matthew (1902); it was recombined as Pliocyon gidleyi by Matthew (1924), Stock and Furlong (1926) and Johnston and Christian (1941); it was recombined as Ischyrocyon gidleyi by Webb (1969), Hunt (1998) and May (2019).
It was recombined as Dinocyon (Borophagus) gidleyi by Matthew (1902); it was recombined as Pliocyon gidleyi by Matthew (1924), Stock and Furlong (1926) and Johnston and Christian (1941); it was recombined as Ischyrocyon gidleyi by Webb (1969), Hunt (1998) and May (2019).
